Updated: Jan 17, 2023

Join Liver Sketching Club on Saturday 9th July for a large outdoor sketching event at Liverpool ONE.

The Liver Sketching Club celebrates its 150th anniversary this year, and this significant milestone will be marked with many special events including an outdoor sketching and painting event at Liverpool ONE.

Liver Sketching Club members, artists and invited groups such as ‘Liverpool Urban Sketchers’ will be popping up in various locations around Liverpool ONE from 10am, although all are welcome to drop by and join in on the creativity!

People have a choice of either drawing costumed models, following along with a landscape painting demo, sitting for a quick portrait, or simply enjoy watching other artists at work.

The event will take place from 10am – 5pm with the main information point on Chavasse Park, near The Club House and with a possible 1000 artists taking part in the event, it could make this the biggest mass sketching event in the North West!

What is happening at the event?

Volunteer art enthusiasts associated with Liver Sketching Club will be situated at location points across Liverpool ONE and will be sketching, drawing and painting various areas of the estate including Thomas Steers Way, Peter’s Square, Chavasse Park, Sugar House Steps and more.

People have a choice of either drawing costumed models, following along with a landscape painting demo, or subscribing to join one of the limited spaces on activities hosted by the Apple Store and Cass Art, booking information can be found at the information desk in Chavasse park on the day, or with Apple or Cass.

There are also two events within the Apple Store and Cass Art.

Model Drawing Workshop at Cass Art

The Liver Sketching Club will also be hosting a model drawing workshop in Cass Art from 12:30-2:30pm for all interested, with the possibility of another session depending on interest on the day.

1. Session One: Art Tour: Drawing from Observation — 1 PM – 2.30 PM

2. Session Two: Art Tour: Drawing from Observation — 3 PM – 4.30 PM

If you are interested in taking part in either of the two events listed above, please make your way to the main information point on the day to book your space. There are very limited places available so we advise you to arrive early.

Can anyone take part?

You don’t have to be a professional artist to take part in this event, just have a love for drawing, sketching and all things art!

No booking is required, all you have to do is turn up from 10am. Each area will have a maximum capacity so we advise to arrive early if you are keen to join in with the event.

Visitors can head up to the main info point on Chavasse Park or approach volunteers at certain locations with any queries on the day.

What equipment will I need?

Participants are encouraged to bring their own painting/sketching equipment, but people dropping by can work with a minimum of a drawing pad or paper (taped to a board for support), pencils, an eraser and a sharpener.

There will be a limited amount of equipment to give out to visitors wanting to take part on the day in goody bags provided by Cass Art, but these will be allocated on a first come first serve basis.

Can children take part?

There is no age limit, however all children must be accompanied and supervised by adults.

There will be a mix of costumed models and landscape drawing in locations around Liverpool ONE so children will need a certain level of confidence in their drawing.

Landscape painting locations will be better suited to adults. For the most part it will be un-tutored, but there will be some light coaching and key tips on offer for those who request it, but no teaching sessions.
